The “Szökős” Folk Dance Ensemble was founded in 1988 and works as the folkore group of the ELTE Savaria University Centre, in the city of Szombathely, West-Hungary. The group’s programme gives a wide panorama of the traditional folk dance, music and costumes from different parts of the Hungarian-speaking area – from inside and outside the borders.
During its history the group performed with success in several festivals of Hungary and abroad as well. The Szökős represented Hungarian culture in 10 countries of Europe. In 2011 the ensemble won the prize for the “best stylized performance” in the international folklore festival of Banja Luka (BiH). In 2016 the ensemble was awarded with the “Excellent Group” title, and won the “Golden Axe” festival prize in Zakopane (Poland). In 2017 the dancers performed in the famous Hungarian folk art TV-show, the “Fölszállott a páva” and participated in the “Hollo ja Martta” festival in Finland.
